Supplements were created to support a person’s diet. Supplements as a group include vitamins, herbs, minerals, amino acids, and enzymes. They might be combined, like in a multi-vitamin, or as a single substance in a powder, pill, or liquid form.

- Be aware that supplements can interact with the medications you take every day. In some cases, these interactions can make your medications less effective or even harmful to your health.
- Include all substance you take and the amount in your medication list on your health profile. Remember, you are the only one that knows all the medications and substances you are taking.
- Review your medications with your physician, nurse practitioner, or pharmacist every year so they can give you guidance and make sure you are using everything safely.
