A physician, nurse practitioner or health care visit can be in person or virtually by phone or using a computer screen and microphone to address general health concerns.
Tips & Links
- The College of Physicians and Surgeons in BC sets a standard of ‘What to Expect from Your Physician”.
- If you have a non-emergency concern, or you are away from your regular physician or do not have one, you can visit a walk-in clinic. To find a walk-in clinic or urgent care use the BC Health Services Locator.
- Be aware that a physician visit is usually scheduled for 10 minutes or discussing one or two health issues unless you have booked a general physical assessment.
- Prepare ahead for a health care visit. Take time to review your health concerns and write down any questions you may have before your appointment. Choose 1-2 key concerns to discuss.
- Learn how to make your physician or healthcare visit more effective and productive from Healthlink BC.
- Bring your health advocate with you to the appointment to take notes and remind you of your questions and concerns for the visit.
- Share with your physician or nurse practitioner any supplementary treatments you are having (such as physiotherapy, massage, or acupuncture), the results and any side effects so they know and can update your electronic health record (EHR).
