A cognitive assessment can be a short, quick test to check how well your brain is functioning. They can also be more in-depth if a problem is identified.
Tips & Links
- Consider having a cognitive assessment If you, your family, or care partners are noticing changes in your memory and periods of confusion.
- Your physician or nurse practitioner can administer different types of cognitive tests. Each test involves answering a series of questions and/or performing simple tasks. They are designed to help measure mental functions, such as memory, language, and the ability to recognize objects.
- In seniors, confusion can come on gradually and may or may not increase with memory loss and dementia.
- Check out Healthlink BC to find strategies used by other seniors who are focusing on ways to age well by staying socially active, engaging in regular physical exercise, and maintaining a calm and organized environment.
- Start to learn about an advance care plan, advance directive, substitute decision-maker, and who you want making decisions on your behalf if you are not able to do so.
