The executor is the person or persons named in your will who is responsible to ensure the terms and statements of the will are fulfilled as directed.

  • An executor is listed in the will as the person who is responsible to distribute a person’s assets, including property, money, and personal belongings.
  • Learn about the role of the executor of your will to ensure that your wishes are carried out at your end-of-life. This person will handle the administrative and legal aspects of your estate. You may designate more than one person to help execute your will.
  • Consider the skills and personality of the person you are choosing to be your executor. They should be organized, communicate well with others, have some business skills, and have the capacity to complete the business tasks after your death. It is a significant responsibility and can be time-consuming and emotionally challenging, especially if the executor is also a family member or a close friend.

  • It is important to have a signed and witnessed copy of your will. Your executor should know the location of your will, and be notified if it is updated at any time.
