Your blood type is inherited in your genes. There are eight blood types with O+ and A+ being the most common.

- Be aware that your blood is crossed and type-matched by a lab to determine your blood type before you receive a transfusion.

- Consider donating blood by learning about the process at Canadian Blood Services. People living with health conditions should check with their physician before they donate blood.
