- Learn about the role of a pharmacist within the healthcare system and the services they can provide to you by visiting the BC Pharmacy Association website.
- Learn about how to talk to your pharmacist about your prescriptions, including how they work, side effects, and any concerns to watch for. Know that they are experts in educating you about using and giving medications.
- Ask about how your medications might interact with each other and with over the counter drugs, supplements, vitamins, herbs, alcohol use or recreational drug use.
- Know that your health information and conversations with your pharmacist are private and confidential.
- Ask for pharmacy handouts on each of your medications and keep them in your Mywell Health planner binder.
- Know that you can call Healthlink BC at 811 to talk to a pharmacist about any of your prescribed medications.
- Pharmacists also have tools to help you remember to take your medications, such as pill boxes and medication blister packs.
- Learn about PharmaNet and the functions it serves in listing your medications for the past year, lowest drug costs, and drugs covered by Fair Pharmacare. Be aware, PharmaNet may not include medications dispensed by the hospital or speciality pharmacies.
- You can also get a list of your medications through your account at Health Gateway BC – this list may include discontinued medications.
- Keep your medication list up to date in your health profile in your Mywell Health planner and review it every year with your pharmacist, physician, or nurse practitioner.
