Day programs or adult day services provide physical activities, social engagement, health monitoring, and nutrition in community settings.

Tips & Links

  • Learn about what types of programs and activities adult day programs offer including personal assistance, nursing and rehabilitation services, recreational programs, group activities, health education and health monitoring offered by the Government of BC.

Learn How To Access

  • Eligibility is based on a) a Home Care Assessment, b) that you require care assistance, and c) day programs are recommended as part of your health plan.
  • Inquire about the roles of the professionals facilitating the programs including occupational therapist, physiotherapist, nurses, or trained caregivers.
  • Know that adult day services can be respite for family caregivers and allow them to care for their own needs or go to their work.

  • Check to see if your local adult program is linked to HandyDART services to and from the setting as it is different in each community. Learn about eligibility for HandyDartBC services.

  • Explore adult day programs specific to your community through Pathways BC. Also investigate if there are adult programs for specific cultural, veteran, or religious groups in your area that might be of interest to you.
