Fair PharmaCare helps BC residents pay for their prescription medications, dispensing fees, and some medical devices and supplies.
Tips & Links
- Fair PharmaCare coverage is based on your income – in most cases, the less you have, the more support you can get from government subsidies.
- Know that you have a deductible to reach before the Fair PharmaCare subsidies begin.
- If you have medical services plan (MSP) coverage, you can use your personal/ provincial health number (PHN) to register for Fair PharmaCare.
- Learn how to register for Fair PharmaCare online by having your (PHN), last year’s income tax return, and your social Insurance number (SIN) ready.
- Learn about what medications are covered or not by Fair PharmaCare. You can ask your physician or pharmacist if the drug being prescribed is covered by your private insurance or health benefits. You can also ask for an alternate medication that is covered by MSP.
- If you are travelling outside of BC, plan ahead by ordering enough medications for your trip including over the counter drugs. Most prescriptions filled outside of the province are not reimbursed.
- Learn if additional support is available to cover drug expenses under the Palliative or First Nations programs.
- Learn about new medication coverage for people with autoimmune diseases.
- Know that medications can be costly. Make a plan for health benefits coverage after retirement and include these costs in your Mywell Health planner section My Financial Plan.
