- The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Survivor’s Pension (also referred to as the Survivor’s Benefit) is a monthly payment paid to the legal spouse or common-law partner of the deceased contributor.
- Learn about the (CPP) Survivors Pension criteria, eligibility and your possible benefit amount. To qualify for the survivor’s pension, you must be legally married to a deceased CPP contributor or be the common-law partner (living together for at least one year) of a deceased CPP contributor. Be aware that you should apply as soon as possible after the contributor’s death. If you delay, you may lose benefits.
- To apply for CPP survivor’s pension create your My Service Canada Account . You’ll need to provide personal information such as your Social Insurance Number (SIN), date of birth, and other identifying details to verify your identity. Once your account is created and verified, you can log into your account to view your CPP, EI, and OAS information, update your personal details, and access other online services offered by Service Canada.
